ENVIRONMENT

In the UEA Oriente N° 1 Mining Unit, we seek to protect the environment in strict compliance with the environmental regulations and the commitments derived from our approved environmental management instruments, in addition to other environmental mining permits and authorizations.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

For the development of its activities, Titan Contratistas Generales S.A.C. is provided with its Environmental Management Plan (EMP, for its initials in Spanish) as a management tool that aims at establishing the appropriate guidelines for environmental protection, health and human safety; proposing for this purpose the performance of the measures regarding prevention, mitigation and correction of the impacts associated with mining operations in the UEA Oriente N° 1 Mining Unit.

The Environmental Management Plan has the following objectives:

Incorporate and comply with the commitments, guidelines and prevention plans, control and mitigation described in the Environmental Management Plan (PMA) for its performance in the underground mining and concentrator plant operations management.

Establish the environmental management in the production process with strict application of the current environmental and mining regulations on environmental quality control (air, surface water, environmental noise, soils and effluents discharge), the mining unit operation area and the surrounding local environment.

Reduce as far as possible the negative environmental effects such as products from our activities, performing immediately the control procedures established in the Safety and Environment Contingency Plan, and performing the mitigation measures and/or recovery of the environment concerned, thus protecting the natural environment.

Perform a strict monitoring of the identified impacts, management plans and commitments established in the environmental impact assessments and mine closure plans for its implementation and fulfilment.

Evaluate and detect unforeseen impacts and propose corrective measures deemed appropriate.

Prevention, Control and Mitigation Program

Prevention, Control and Mitigation Program

The Environmental Prevention, Control and Mitigation Program is implemented as part of our environmental policy regarding the underground operation activities and in-plant processing, which aims at providing the necessary environmental measures to prevent, correct or mitigate the potential environmental impacts in the local environment.

Among the main measures that are being implemented are the following

Air Quality Protection Measures: Gas Control and Dust Release.

Environmental Noise Levels Control Measures: Operational Controls of Equipment and Machinery.

Surface Water Quantity and Quality Protection Measures: Quality Control of the Comuni Lagoon and Treatment of Mining Effluents.

Domestic Wastewater Management: Biological Treatment in Septic Tanks.

Soils Protection Measures: Treatment of Soils with Hydrocarbons in Volatilization Sites and Hazardous Waste Management.

Measures to Protect Species of Wild Flora and Fauna: Protection of Wildlife.

Measures for the Protection of Archaeological Remains: Monitoring of Civil Works Activities for new projects.

Environmental Monitoring Program

Environmental Monitoring Program

The Environmental Monitoring Program is permanently implemented in the UEA Oriente N° 1 mining unit, which aims at evaluating and controlling the environmental variables dynamic and the compliance with the preventive, corrective and/or mitigation measures proposed in the Environmental Management Plan in order to provide accurate and updated information to the competent authorities.

It comprises the control of the following environmental variables:

Monitoring of Air Quality (gas and dust).

Monitoring of Surface Water Quality in the Comuni Lagoon.

Monitoring of Environmental Noise Levels.

Monitoring of Mining Effluents.

The sample collection and/or data collection is performed by a laboratory that is specialized and duly accredited by INACAL (Instituto Nacional de Calidad – National Institute of Quality). The results and analysis are reported on a quarterly basis before the Regional Directorate of Energy and Mines of Puno (DREM of Puno) and the Water Local Authority of Huancané (Local ALA) for the discharges authorization.

Solid Waste Management Program

Solid Waste Management Program

The objective of the Solid Waste Management Program is to ensure the comprehensive management of solid hazardous and non-hazardous waste generated in the UEA Oriente N° 1 mining unit, in order to prevent, control and minimize the risks and effects in the natural environment and the workers´ health.

Moreover, it comprises the procedures and techniques that allows the performance of hydrocarbons handling such as: fuel, lubricants, additives, chemical substances and reagents, in a sanitary and environmentally appropriate manner and in compliance with the Law of Comprehensive Solid Waste Management, its regulations and other applicable standards. The main actions we perform are:

For the final disposal of waste, Titan Contratistas Generales S.A.C. counts on the services of a Solid Waste Operating Company (EO-RS) that performs the activities of collection, transportation and final disposal towards the landfill, which is duly authorized by the MINAM (Ministerio del Ambiente – Environment Ministry).

Environmental Training Program

Environmental Training Program

The personnel itself, the contractors and visitors to the UEA Oriente N° 1 mining unit, are duly trained in issues regarding environment protection procedures and regulation applicable to underground mine operation activities and processing at the concentrator plant, in order to keep and promote a culture of prevention and responsible use of natural resources.

The environmental training seeks the active participation of workers, keeping the environmental conditions in a safe and balanced way and contains the following topics:

Environmental policy and current legislation.
